A young man who works in Olive wood carving business brought this LED computer monitor for repair. He said he wants it urgently because he needs to monitor what is going with the carving machine since it was connected to his desk top. I gave him a used one from my shop till I get this one fixed so he was happy with that.

The stand by on this computer monitor was flicking which gave me the indication of a power supply failure.

I was expecting either cold soldering joints, bad capacitors or could be both because I have seen it many times in my field of work.

The moment I took the back cover off and checked the main and the power supply, I spotted right away some cold joints. Could it be that easy? Just re solder these bad joints and the screen will work? I guess I was day dreaming because when I re soldered these bad cold joints, the computer screen did not come on.

I took the board off and flipped it to the other side when I spotted another problem right away.

Plugged capacitors and they were two of 470uf/25 volts and right away, I replaced them, put everything back together and powered up the computer monitor.

The stand by light was steady this time and the computer monitor was alive again. I connected it to my laptop and tested it for almost an hour and it seems like it was up and running.

When I called the customer to come and get his fixed computer monitor. I also reminded him to bring the other computer monitor that he borrowed from me. When the customer showed up to my shop, he did not bring the other monitor with him and in fact, he offered me a price for that monitor plus the repair fees for this one.

We agreed on a price and he also paid the repair fees then he left my shop. To tell you the truth, I was not expecting that at all but I sold a used computer monitor that was sitting in my shop and got the repair fees and I can call that a

Mission accomplished.

Mission accomplished of course, but only as long as you do not need another monitor or still have one for future repairs. As having none can be a problem when investigating defect computers and so on. The fact that the customer didn’t bring yours back as he should have left you a poor choice!

Albert: I have plenty of computer monitors in the shop. I usually fix them and sometimes I buy them from customers and end up selling them for good profit. good business. have a blessed day
