My Pastor at church approached me with a question about repairing a dead charger that he found in the storage room. When I looked at that charger, I answered with a smile, of course I can. I took it to my shop the next day and started working on it.

That is a kind of old charger but it needed repair and that is why I am here for to fix things that needed repair no matter how old or bad any device might be.

According to my Pastor, the only thing wrong with it was these AC broken pins and that is a problem that needed to be fixed.

Because the charger was sitting in the storage room for a long time corrosion was present on this device and it had to be cleaned as well.

Before doing any cleaning on this device, I just want to make sure it was up and running. Here is what I did.

I took the back cover off and soldered an wire with a plug to the two pins of the device and powered it up.

I added four batteries to the charger and right away, the device was up and charging. Now it was logical to clean the charging pins and make sure they were spotless.

Mission Accomplished.

Parasuraman: exactly my point, other technicians will not even look at it but I am willing to do it no matter what the repair issue is.

Good job. You are of course confident you can fix almost anything before you had started. But we really only can be completely sure after we had opened the charger and had a peek inside.
And storage room corrosion is a bad sign in most cases. A problem that apparently also often occurres in outside placed videocameras. Why my former boss placed Dessicant Silica Gel crystals inside those devices to prevent moisture on the lenses. The same Desiccants in small chemical bags that often contain indicator crystals, salts that change color as they absorb water, we often find in new packages to prevent metal oxidation on expensive devices.

      Albert: thanks man.
confidence is always there no matter what the repair issue is. even if I after take it apart and see the issue too expensive or beyond any repair, I pull myself up and keep moving…
thanks for your input and have a blessed day

Waleed, I would have taken the entire cable down one of the old pin entry holes and filled the other with silicon and or epoxy resin. But I commend your can-do attitude to repairing old hardware.

The message is very clear and encouraging. Readiness to attend to issues regardless of the magnitude. That paves the way for holding on to and rssolving bigger issues. A lesson to experts and more importantly to beginners.

Exactly what I was putting off doing. My kids break everything and so I repair if possible. Now you have given me motivation to get my sons baofeng uv5r battery charger going. It’s rewarding when electronics are up and running again! Next item is my Yamaha A-520 amplifier! Thanks heaps 🙂
