A Dead Welding Machine Brought Back To Life. Model: Kauffe
A welding technician brought this dead welding machine for repair. It is a Turkish made welding machine. Many people are buying the same model and they are cheap. From a repair point of view they are complicated to repair and the parts are hard to find.
I powered the machine to see what was wrong with it but it did not come on and I could not hear the fan running either.
As I looked to the power switch, it was suppose to have a red light on but there was not indicating a bad switch.
Was that the only issue with this welding machine? Let us find out.
Main power switch is located at the bottom side of the welding machine but I managed to get to it to replace the faulty switch there.
As expected the main power switch was faulty and needed a replacement but the moment I replaced it and powered on the machine, it came on but I could not hear the fan running, instead I could smell something burning.
That was a good sign but if the fan is not running, this machine will eventually over heat and the damage will be worse than before.
I uninstalled the fan out of its housing and I connected it to external power source and guess what? It did not spin and I could something burning again.
I have plenty of these fans in my shop; I replaced it with a used but in excellent condition one. Once I powered the machine again, it came on and this time the fan was spinning.
The final test was to measure DC voltage readings at the negative and positive terminals of the machine and it was spot on.
Mission accomplished.

It is really unbelievable how many Welding machines turn up at your address. That you are able in fixing them all is no mystery anymore of course!
Albert: yes, I went to every welding shops in town and offered my repair business and it seems like most welders are responding to his offer. I had some machines that could not fix but i try not to give up and try to fix them when I find the schematics for them otherwise I am sometimes get stuck with nasty repair issues.
A good article on Welding Machines! You are ‘yielding’ to repair ‘welding’ machines and looks like it has become a specialized passion! (LOL)
