PHILIPS Hi Fi Set up low sound

The complaint of this Philips Audio/video system model FW-V520 was very low sound on both speakers even though the volume already adjusted to maximum.

Usually when this kind of symptom happened, one has to check on the audio section. It can be audio processor IC fault, corrupted memory IC and etc.

Once the cover was removed I saw three circuit boards i.e Tuner PCB, Power PCB and front panel control PCB-see the photo below:

There was another PCB board which is the main control and pre-amp PCB board-see the photo below:

PHILIPS main control and preamp board

In this board I saw the audio processor IC with the part number of TDA7468D. Since this IC has many functions thus I suspected this IC first before other parts. You can click on the diagram below to access the datasheet website:

Since I have the spare part with me so it would not take long for me to replace the IC and do a retest-see the two photos below:

Once the TDA7468 IC was replaced and powered On, I could hear the sound came back.

If after the replacement of the audio processor IC and the problem is still the same, I may have to start to track pin 14 and 15 of the IC that usually lead to memory ICs.

Fixing those not very serviceable-friendly Audio sets is always an uncertain task at first. Good thing you were able to pinpoint the exact cause without going to deep into the matter and saving valuable time!
