A friend of mine brought me his Iphone 6 for repair. He explained that the phone battery drains fast. With such battery drain come some questions, does the battery percentage gradually decreases or jumps down? When charging the phone, does the charging percentage jumps up or gradually goes up. Since the answers to all the questions were: gradually up and down in charging and discharging, then the issue here is the battery. If it jumps in charging and discharging, then the issue would have to do with the charging IC itself.

IPHONE 6 REPAIR HOW TO

This is the Iphone 6 and it looks like it is in good shape and I was about to open it with a special screw driver to get to the battery.

IPHONE 6 how to fix

They are called pentalobe screws and needs pentalobe screw driver to get them out.  Once I took the screws off, I was able to see inside the phone.

Be careful here when lifting the screen up. Do not go more than 90 degrees otherwise you will damage the screen, touch and sensor flex cables.

My safety precaution is to unplug the battery flex cable first. Just take these screws off and then pull up the battery socket with a plastic tool.

The next step is to take these screws off to get to the screen, sensor, and touch flex cables.

Be careful keep the screws in the right order because they are not the same length and you could damage the board and cause it to short out.

To my surprise, I found this on the battery. It is dated to year 17 and if you look closely, you will see that when it was installed, it was only 79% effective.

That explained the continuous complain of the customer about the phone dying very fast.

The white adhesive tape on the battery sticking the battery inside the phone was really bad and it took me a while to take the battery out. I had to use heat to do that.

Since the new battery has no adhesive tape on it, I have to add it so the battery will not be loose inside the phone.

This is a double sided tape. I cut it to length and applied to the phone then I stuck the battery on it.

Looks good and clean, adding the battery and the screen back was quite easy. Just reverse the process and you will end up with a working phone. Make sure you connect the battery last after installing the screen.

Go to setting then battery you will be able to see the health of the new battery I just installed. Charge it to 100% and you are set to make calls or search the internet. Mission accomplished.

I normally do not fix smartphones because of the tiny parts and special screwdriver tools needed. But you made it seem so very easy in this Iphone 6 repair. So hats off for your very professional explained repair.

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Albert: yea, special tools are needed here and a lot of patience as well. replacing a battery is an easy task but there are deeper repair for such phones. i appreciate your comment. have a blessed day

Money to be made in fixing these smart phones, check out Louis Rossman’s youtube channel about fixing all things mac-oriented. I don’t understand the reluctance to fix smart phones, they are expensive and thus the customer will pay good money to fix them, fixing old CRT tv’s, rice cookers and second-hand crappy audio systems makes no sense, they are worthless to begin with and the customer won’t pay you much at all to fix them. Don’t know about you, but I am in the repair business to MAKE money, so fixing electronics of value is where its at, not fixing old junky stuff, YMMV.

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Randy: yes, there is good money in this business. I was Louis Rossman programs but not often due to the bad language he uses all the time but he has an excellent repair experience.
I agree about the low business of repair consumer product and it is cheap but if you combine both repair together is a very good idea. sometimes you need a break from the precision work of the smart phone to an easy fix of any consumer product. have a blessed day

      1. Gary Gemmell says:

Yes i agree Louis Rossman very good but bad language not professional as yourself Waleed!

Boris: indeed, main job to bring equipment up and running. have a blessed day
