An American lady brought this laptop for repair. She explained that she tried to replace the broken screen before but the problem was, she could not find the right screen for it and she almost gave up on it.

Well, she was right because I looked all over the place and I could not find a replacement for it. I checked it on line but I found used ones for sale but the cost was too much besides shipping and handling. I have repaired a lot of things for this lady and I was willing to help her in any way possible.

As I took the screws off the front frame of the laptop and exposed the screen. I had to take four screws off the side of the screen itself. It was very easy to expose the screen and take it off the laptop itself but the challenge here was to find a replacement and it was worrying me a lot.

As you can see, the screen was damaged and the only way was to replace it. I recalled about the customer telling me how it was broken; her son stepped on it while he was running.

These are the side screws that had to come off. I very often forget about them.

Once it was taken off I looked at the model and the moment I saw the screen from the back, I smiled because I have one very close to it and it might work.

It was a Samsung made but still has a lot of Chinese words on it. I got the replacement, and installed it on the laptop and it actually worked. But the moment I put the frame back on, I saw something wrong.

Can you see what was wrong? The metal frame of the replacement was not the same width so it can be seen on the outside of the frame. To be on the safe side, I called the customer and explained to her the situation. Her answer was music to my ears when she told me that she was happy that I found a replacement and she does not care about the look.

She came and got her laptop and was so thrilled that it was working again. Another satisfied customer added to my list and I can call it, Mission accomplished.

Good job! It is a good thing that replacing screens is still possible without removing the bottom part of the laptop. But some manufacturers make it harder in the newer very thin laptop models to replace only the screen because screen and topcase are one. Even removing the battery or the hdd in those models is not possible without opening the entire case first. The European government has made new rules that forbids manufacturers to produce laptops with battery packs sealed inside those computercases without being able to easily remove or replace them. Which may cause environment problems in time when laptops are thrown away.
