I have serviced this kind of charging case for many times but this case is completely different. The whole case was working fine but one section of it stopped working for some reason. Let us find out why?

charging circuit repair

This is a charging unit that belongs to my church. It charges sending and receiving units that we use for translation purposes. This unit was donated to my church and before we actually use it, it has to go through maintenance and that means, through me. I was informed by the donor that this device was in the storage room for almost a year collecting humidity, dust and dirt.

It uses 12 DC volt external power supply with 5 amps rating. Logically, since the other charging sections are charging fine which means the power supply is in good working order but I went ahead and checked it any way and it checked fine as expected.

low voltage in charging circuit

While it was charging the devices, I checked the voltage readings there and found it to be lower than usual. I was suppose to get at least 11 DC volt.

charging circuit faulty

Before I took it apart, I noticed some corrosion on its pins. It was time to get it open and fixed. About four screws out on both sides, I was able to get it open and get directly to that area where it was showing the fault.

charging circuit fault problem

It was worse than I expected. I thought only the tip of that pin was corroded but it was actually spreading to the other side of the pin and getting to the printed circuit itself.

charging pcb faulty

This is the other infected side of the board. It was really bad.

I have to go through the process of cleaning all that up. I also re soldered all the cold joints on that board and made sure all the lines are connected the way it should be. It was a boring job but the result was fantastic.

Mission Accomplished.
