The man who brought his hair straightener for repair explained that this device suddenly went into shut down. As the customer waits, I powered up the device and sure enough, there was no sign or indication that it was alive.

This is an expensive hair straightener and worthy to be fixed and maintained. From experience in such devices, when I am dealing with no power symptoms, there are few options to consider. It could be a faulty power cord, a fuse thermostat open due to over heating or could be the board itself that has issues.

I have not see a lot of board in such devices being defective but I have seen a lot with bad power cord or thermostat issues. So let us take it apart and find out.

With a flat screw driver I took the plastic pieces covering the screw inside. As you can see, the screw is exposed and if you flip to the other side, you will see the other side of the screw or clip.

In this case it was a clip holding the metal piece inside. Once I take the clip off or sometimes a screw, the two pieces come apart exposing the inside of the hair straightener.

I am trying to get to the power cord to make sure the device is getting enough power to the device to make it work.

After taking these two tiny screws off I was able to get to the power cord and there I saw a problem.

It was corroded but after cleaning and testing the power cord connected to 220 AC volts, I was getting only 21 volts which an indications of a bad power cord.

The two sides of the power cord meet in these two sides of a female plug which rotate with the movement of the hair straightener not allowing the power cord to twist or get tangled up. I got a new power cord and installed it back on and powered up the device.

Mission accomplished.
