Received call from a friend that he is having sound problem with his CRT TV. Stating problem that TV’s sound is very low even from remote control volume keeping on high setting there is very low variation is audible.

So while I am way to my office I just drop down to his home for just checking what the symptom is. Now a day OLD TV reception system through antenna is gone and now everybody is using set top box. I have checked the volume control position form both the unit TV as well Set top box there is not much variation is audible it gives effect of only 15% of sound out of 100% which is not enough if person is seating even around 5 Feet area .

Now I decide to open the TV and troubleshoot inside the TV. Now my first attempt of testing is speaker. I have removed the speaker from the TV and tested with the Multimeter look what I found. Multimeter reading 110 ohm when speaker is of 8 OHM.

Concluding the culprit. I have bought a new speaker from near by radio shack.

On arrival I have tested new speaker for coil resistance it shows near 8 OHM.

Good and quick repair, atime you may change the speaker with good one of the same values it may not solve the low sound output. In this case the TV audio cicurt may be the fault.
