My sister in law who works in an organization that deals with mentally and physically challenged people uses a lot of these kinds of devices that produce either relaxing sounds along with nice colors. This device that was brought to me today for repair is one of them.

led light repair

The dome is a rotating one and lights from inside that dome should light up giving nice relaxing lights across the room. The problem with this device is the moment it was powered up with 220 AC nothing happens, no rotating dome no any light come one. Let us find out why.

I have fixed and maintained a lot of devices that like before. When it comes to LED lights involved, the device will shut down simply because one or two of the LED lights inside became open. That was my focus in this repair.

led light repair how to

That is what inside this device. The first step was to check out the LED lights and see what is going on there.

Using my multimeter set to diode setting I checked all the lights. One of them only was working and the other two were dead. That explains why the device was not working.

The only problem is that these LED lights produce blue color and the LED lights that I have in the shop are white. I checked with the customer about that and she was ok as long as they see some blue in that device she said.

replace led light

There are the dead LED lights and I have different kind of LED lights but I was willing to give it a try and see how it looks like.

I know it does not look pretty at this time but that was not my objective. The result is what I am after in this device. So I replaced the two dead LED lights and gave it a try. Take a look

I was glad to see some blue rays in these lights and I was happy with the result.

I put the dome back on and tighten it with the screw as you can see on top and powered up the device. The dome started to rotate and the LED lights were on giving the expected color and motion.

Mission Accomplished.

Maybe it is also possible to color the white leds a bit blue with paint or a marker?
At least they are less white then. (never tried this though). A bit like the dark light (UV) lights in a dark room.

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Albert: I could do that but did not think of though so maybe next time.
      Have a blessed day

Albert: I had another one for repair with the same cause. I added some permanent blue marker on it and I did not see that much change in the coloring. have a blessed day.

Good job, Waleed. Very useful information about a device I didn´t know yet. One issue did not become clear. In the beginning, you´ve told that nothing worked: the LEDs didn´t glow and the motor didn´t rotate. You serviced the LED part, but nothing said about what you did to turn the motor rotating.

    1. Waleed Rishmawi says:

Henrique: thanks man. yes, after repairing the LED lights, the motor worked on its own. when one of the LED light goes bad it becomes open therefore the circuit was not complete to get the motor spinning.

The quality that I notice at the fore, is your readiness to troubleshoot and rectify even very tiny and cheap products like these. That shows the true commitment you have! Well done, Waleed!

Parasuraman: thanks man. I repaired another one just like this one today with the same fault.
